About Dr. Tara Tarantino
Tara Tarantino offers a holistic approach to patient care and preventive medicine, listening and partnering with her patients to achieve and maintain wellness. She became a physician because she wanted to build meaningful partnerships with her patients to improve and maintain their overall health and wellbeing. Welcoming patients and families from adolescents to seniors, her practice is built on compassion and trust; recognizing that wellness begins when you look beyond simply treating symptoms and care for the whole person.
In addition to Family Medicine, Dr. Tarantino also provides Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) for patients of all ages. OMT involves using the hands to diagnose, prevent and treat illness and injury; employing techniques that include stretching, gentle pressure (like massage), and resistance. These treatments can be used to ease pain, promote healing, decrease stress, and increase overall mobility. When appropriate, OMT can complement, and sometimes replace, drugs or surgery.
Tara Tarantino obtained her medical degree from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internship at NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and her residency at Saint John's Episcopal Hospital in Queens, NY.
Dr. Tarantino is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
FAQs
What is a DO?
DOs are fully trained and licensed physicians who practice in all areas of Medicine using a whole-person, patient-centered approach to medicine, listening and partnering with their patients to achieve and maintain wellness.
The main difference in the training of DOs and MDs is that DOs complete an additional 200 hours of coursework, This extra training focuses on bones, muscles, and nerves and how they interconnect and affect the body's overall health.
What is OMT?
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) employs the interplay between the neuromusculoskeletal system and the body as a whole, with the objective of reinstating functionality and/or eliminating impediments to motion and healing. With its hands-on approach, OMT has the potential to assist in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of various medical conditions. Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) use OMT to treat musculoskeletal pain and a wide range of health conditions.
Using several OMT techniques, DOs apply gentle pressure to manipulate the muscles, bones and joints. This treatment encourages the body to heal itself by ensuring that the bones and muscles are aligned and balanced.
Most insurance companies cover OMT.
Feel free to ask your insurance company if they cover OMT. The procedure code is 98929.
What are the benefits of OMT?
